A fantastic opportunity to work with a large international trading company within the wheat, corn and grains market where they are sourcing, transporting over 15 million tons of agricultural commodities each year.

Reporting to the Head of Shipping you will be responsible for managing and chartering freight to cover risk and exposures for the trading business. You will ensure coordinated support to the commodity trading desks whilst maximising market opportunities. As seasoned professional you will provide an advisory and execution service to the traders so they can be competitive on business, while ensuring risk management is maintained whilst supporting the group’s portfolio of key agricultural customers.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Chartering with the goal of achieving at a minimum the budgeted freight rates with the intention to improve
  • Establishing trader’s needs and developing strategies to meet these needs effectively with quantifiable and manageable risk to the company
  • Selection, appointment and management of approved agents/brokers to assist with business development
  • Finding new owners and brokers while assessing risks associated with same
  • Assessing and developing a view on the freight forward curves for advisory purposes, hedging, pricing and positioning
  • Daily market monitoring
  • Ensuring that vessel fixtures are carried out with approved counterparts
  • Managing FFA OTC derivative hedging as and when required
  • Production of bi-weekly freight reports
  • Managing and monitoring the freight positions
  • Verification of freight pricing and sign off of costs upon vessel closures
  • Signing off of freight P&L’s and variance explanation

Please note that this position is located in the Isle of Man and would require the successful candidate to fully relocate as this opportunity is  full-time based at their offices in Douglas. Remote working will not be considered.

To be a suitable candidate you must have 10 years chartering experience within the handysize and supramax segments dealing with agricultural products.
